Hope is Not a Strategy: Why You Must Hedge Your FX
"You miss 100% of the shots your never take."
- Michael Jordan

Like every other kid exposed to Americana pop culture in the 80s and 90s, I owned a Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls basketball shirt. I wanted to be like him. He had electrifying energy and was intoxicating to watch. He turned the Chicago Bulls from a losing side into one of the greatest sports teams of all time.

Recently, while watching “The Last Dance” on Netflix, I was again reminded of just how brilliant Michael Jordan was. I used to think a major reason for his success was that he was a giant. I couldn't have been more wrong. To the contrary, he is quite “short” by basketball standards. In fact, when he first joined the Bulls, his coaches spoke about his 6’5” frame like it was a disability. Instead, Michael Jordan beat the competition by outworking, and outsmarting them.

Likewise, operating a successful borderless business in various currencies, requires careful planning and hard work. It’s hyper competitive with little room for mistakes. All it takes is a tweet from a country leader or an unfavourable economic press release, to move a currency, destroy your margin, and blow up your budget.

These are the problems faced by importers, exporters and technology focused companies with distributed development teams spread across the world. Paying these multitude of invoices and people in multiple currencies is both tedious and stressful. Worst of all, the currency keeps moving all the time, making budgeting challenging and time consuming.

Many industry solutions have been built to address some of these challenges. These tools are designed for major corporates with large treasury departments. They are clunky to use and require a whole team of financial professionals to manage. The industry seems to have forgotten about SMEs

Our company, Paytron, is on a mission to change that.

My co-founder, Francois and I, and our exceptional team want to help companies optimise their workflows and extract efficiencies from challenging tasks, so that our customers can compete on a level playing field.

We want to make it possible for companies to budget with certainty and get more done by taking control of currency risk, moving money efficiently and automating their invoice workflows. From Anywhere.

Paytron. Optimising cashflows for the borderless business.
